Modern anesthesiology and critical care medicine depends upon the translational knowledge derived at the interface between patient care and the research laboratory. Acknowledging this, one of the key goals of the Vanderbilt Anesthesiology Department is to develop the reputation as a national recognized leader in basic, translational, clinical, and health services research. Our Research programs are expansive, ranging from the basic science underlying common perioperative complications to innovations in perioperative safety and management.
Vanderbilt is committed to the development of physician-scientists, and our labs are generating research documented with publications, continuing grant awards and presentations. We make every effort to provide the premier research training experience for resident physicians, fellows, and graduate students. Our unique Robbins Scholars Program is one such experience that is designed to recruit and train the best physician-scientists who will guide our specialty in the future.
