The Critical Care program has all levels of trainees from medical students, interns, and residents to fellows. The wide variety of cases and high level of acuity provide an excellent source for training a broad spectrum of critical care skills. The faculty include board certified Anesthesiology, Neurology, and Surgical Critical Care Attendings. The patient populations include neurosurgical, neurological, trauma, burns, cardiothoracic, transplant and elective surgical cases. The continuum of the practice of medicine in Anesthesiology to the Perioperative care of the critically injured patients is integrated into the Divisions teaching ethos.
The educational program consists of a combination of mentoring, didactic lectures, practical procedure instruction and self-studying. The faculty endeavour to provide the opportunity for in-depth knowledge of critical care and mentoring on academic and professional development. The new ACGME core competencies form the basis of the training curriculum and include patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, practice based learning, and systems based practice.
The Hospital computer-based pharmacy ordering, note writing and X-ray systems allow for high quality timely and safe practice. These advantages give faculty and trainees the ideal model to perform the highest quality critical care. We use the best evidence based treatment with our patient’s outcome and safety held foremost in our efforts.
